Erdem Taşdelen lives and works in Vancouver, Canada. He holds a BA in Visual Arts and Communication Design from Sabancı University in Istanbul and an MAA in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, where he currently teaches. His multidisciplinary practice involves a range of media including installation, drawing, sculpture, video, sound and artist books. Often working with text and language, he draws from a diverse set of references that includes both highbrow and lowbrow expressions of personal identification. These references are filtered through selfreflexive processes where he questions his various existences in social realms, ultimately presenting an investigation of subjectivity and its representations. His works are often imbued with dramatization, playfulness and humour, and his practice engages the socially constructed and culturally learned aspects of self-expression. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at venues such as Galeri NON, ARTER, Sanatorium, Hayaka Arti and Kasa Galeri in Istanbul; Museum für angewandte Kunst/Gegenwartskunst in Vienna; Western Front, 221A and Charles H. Scott Gallery in Vancouver BC; and Oakville Galleries in Oakville ON. Forthcoming exhibitions include group shows at Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, Green Art Gallery in Dubai, and Kunstverein Hannover.
